When my buddies and I booked this place for a week of fishing on the Missouri River, little did we know that the Ranch at Dearborn would be one of the highlights of the week! Comfortable, very clean, friendly, and lots of good comfort food. It felt like coming home each night. Rich and Trudy are remarkable hosts. There's nothing they won't do for you. Great location, up a Montana dirt road, to a terrific viewpoint, and very convenient to Craig with fly shops and great fishing. Rich and Trudy have hearts of gold and care for rescue horses and other animals. I fell in love with the Ranch at Dearborn and Rich and Trudy. We can't wait to come back next year.

After hauling ass through Wyoming and up the slight grade of the freeway into Montana in our pathetically weak Chrysler rental it was a relief to finally find this retreat near the end of a dirt road. Rich and Trudy seemed to be the goodwill ambassadors for the entire Cascade area (as well as the local wildlife). Their B&B is isolated enough that we felt far and away, yet it was well-equipped (Trudy's dinners were well worth what she charged), and they both take pride in excellence not just in the upkeep of their facilities but the overall experience of their guests. We couldn't be happier with our all-too-brief time in Montana with the Hayes'. Of note is that this spot would be perfect for those in the fishing crowd, though there are a few nice walks back into the mountains or even along the non-operational train tracks down below running along the river and through a rock face. They even have horses which are not ready to ride yet, though it wouldn't hurt to ask about in the next season. Oh, and there are deer everywhere, lots of them, all calm as peace itself. Rich and Trudy were hilarious, informative, and welcoming when we were around them, but made it easy to be alone and gave us plenty of space without us hardly having to think the thought. They also had some great suggestions on hikes, activities, as well as driving routes and Montana attractions. This leg of our trip was definitely one of the high points of our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Rich and Trudy and hope to be back very, very soon. Rich, Trudy: thank you so much! We used our boot mugs as soon as we got back to San Francisco.

We drove through Montana on our honeymoon road trip and were lucky enough to end up at The Ranch at the Deerborn for 2 nights.  I have to say, this was the most memorable part of our trip … Rich and Trudy are amazing people!

Not only did I have a blast hanging out with them, they are such gracious hosts as well.  I felt so spoiled because they always made sure our bellies were filled with delicious food and that we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.  Their place is SPOTLESS – a huge relief after a couple of nights spent at icky motels.  Trudy and Rich hold very high standards and it shows.  Also, their rates are really low and include a delicious home cooked breakfast every morning.

The Ranch at the Deerborn is surrounded by beautiful mountains, a river and old train tracks.  Animal abound!  Deer, horses, chickens, cats, a dog and even a very polite skunk named “Spot” kept us company during our stay.  We don’t fish but if you do, then you really need to stay here.  It’s right in the middle of it!

We’ll definitely be back … hopefully sooner than later!

Loved it! I wish I had planned to stay longer, one night was not enough!! Amazing deal for a gorgeous view, great hosts, very comfortable rooms and clean, well maintained bathrooms. Again, I wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area. Rich and Trudy are among the most accommodating hosts and clearly enjoy what they do and keeping you comfortable. If you like peace and quiet, with lovely scenery, great hosts, and a variety of animals, from cats, a dog, horses, chickens and deer, you will love it here. Rich and Trudy provide interesting conversation and the atmosphere of you being a very welcome guest with a willingness to share as if you were a family friend. I loved it there. Carla R

Rich and Trudy were very welcoming, their beautiful ranch was clean and comfortable, and one of our most memorable experiences. Nathan F

Rich and Trudy were wonderful. I arrived later than I planned, and they Trudy was still able to provide an amazing and filling dinner. It was well worth the money spent! She even offered me fresh trout just caught that day! The room and bed was very comfortable and exactly what I needed after a day of driving. Rich and Trudy were very accommodating and went out of their way to provide me with every amenity. The property is beautiful and has quite the view I found out in the morning(I arrived in the night). The ranch also has all sorts of animals and I even got to feed the horses! I would recommend The Ranch at the Dearborn above any other place in the area. I would drive far out of my way to stay with them again. I hope to see them again soon! Eric M

Rich and Trudy were very nice and accommodating and made my stay with them nothing short of spectacular. Anything I asked for or needed there were more than helpful and flexible to make my stay with them an awesome experience. Also the place is very clean and organized which is always nice. The deer outside their house were very peaceful to watch in the mornings and evenings along with the view of the surrounding landscape made this a very comfortable place to stay and would highly recommend it to anyone. Hi there Rich and Trudy, Just wanted to send a shout. Thanks again for all of your hospitality, and for our laminated take-home souvenirs with all of the pictures. The four of us truly appreciated all of your kindness. Hope you had fun with your French guests, and all of the many others that will cross your doors! Have a great summer, Jessica

Hello! Just thought I would let you know that we made it safely back home to Coeur d'Alene. I wanted to thank you again for your hospitality. I had another epic adventure on the Missouri. Staying with you guys has become part of it. Tony is already begging to take me with him again and wants to do it for 3 nights. (He had wanted to camp one night, kinda get dirty, have a campfire, etc.) I was like, yeah! So this time of year (a week after school is out) is going to be a tradition. So I would expect some reservations from me.... And maybe some others, too. Trying to get the wife to the Craig Caddis Festival! I think I probably have one more trip in me to the Missouri this year. Probably in September or October. I'll swing by and see what's up when I do. Again.... you helped make the trip a memory. Another awesome trip! Take care, Chris P

Trudy and Rich, I wanted to say thank you. You have a lot of love to share with people and animals. Glad I was a small part of it. If people don't appreciate your five star service...heck with them. Don't change. We loved the Ranch at Dearborn and will definitely be back. I have your pin on my fishing hat and my son loves the finger light. I will have your laminated pictures in my man cave fishing area. Thanks again, Tony P Couer d Alene, Idaho

As an avid fly fisherman, I always book my stay at The Ranch at the Dearborn when I fish The Mo. It satisfies my needs in a variety of ways. It’s clean, cozy, and affordable to begin with. My buddies and I start our day off in the morning to a homemade breakfast at a time of our choosing, early or late. The river lunches that are packed for the drift boat are always more than I can eat. Top that off with another fine meal, a dinner that you don’t have to rush off the river for if you want it hot. I have gotten into the Ranch well after dark---only to be asked how I like my steak! The Ranch at the Dearborn is perfectly located for a variety of floats, and a great wade fishing section is located close by at Mid Canon. Shuttles that include ice are also an exceptional value. Rich and Trudy are friendly, down-to-earth hosts, that are easy to get to know. After my first stay, it seemed like I had know them for a long time. They have a way of making you feel that way. At the same time, they know the real reason I am there. THE TROUT FISHING! They always provide up-to-date fishing reports, weather conditions, and river flows. I read through these while eating my breakfast, slam my coffee down, give them my spare key for the shuttle, and hit the river! The animals and atmosphere around The Ranch at the Dearborn are a nice diversion and help you unwind after a long day on the oars and/or a sore arm from casting to and landing (easier said than done!) the trophy trout that inhabit the Missouri River. If you would rather spend your time testing the waters of this blue-ribbon trout stream, and leave all the inconvenient hassles behind, then book your stay here. I’m already planning my next visit! Sincerely, Chris P Coeur d’Alene, ID

Trudy & Rich- I wanted to let you know what a delightful time I had at The Ranch. For me this was my best trip there, definitely my most comfortable. I'm reasonably certain we will be staying there every time we come to Montana. Lastly, there will be a little something in the mail for you. I think you will enjoy it. Thank you both so much for making this a wonderful trip. Eric Black, Artist

Rich and Trudy's Ranch at the Dearborn is amazing! And they are such warm and engaging hosts we could not have possibly had a more wonderful time! We especially loved all the animals, both domestic (Brown Dog and 11 baby kittens) and 'wild"---the local deer seem tame, and the horses are beautiful to watch. Meals were delicious and felt like we were eating in the comfort of out own home. The natural setting can't be beat ---the view just doesn't get old! Can't wait to come back again with more, members of our family to share the experience. Terrific! Christopher M

Hi Rich & Trudy, Thanks for being such great hosts and the nice accommodations and good food. Also the other info is interesting. Be well! Rich& Paul

Hi Rich and Trudy I am back home in Arvada. I just wanted to Thank You for taking such wonderful care of us while we were on the Missouri. Everyone else made it back safely. Hoping we can get back up that way real soon. Bill and Hilary
