SNOTEL Mont Snow Equivalent

Montana SNOTEL Current Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) % of Normal

2015 SNOTEL.jpg

As you know, trout like cool water and that is part of the draw in this part of the Missouri River. So, we all are looking at the Snow Packs. While the weather out East breaks records, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California are fearing drought. That is true for the Northwestern section of Montana. The Missouri River system is near 100% of normal. Montana traditionally gets over 50% of its annual precipitation in April, May, and June and while it is cold and snowy in many other parts of the nation, we are enjoying Spring-like weather. Here at The Ranch at the Dearborn, our horses are enjoying short, green grass that started growing immediately after the last snow. There is a weak El Nino predicted by The National Weather Service which means a wetter and warmer summer for us here in Montana. We have seen a lot of drift boats coming past us in the Missouri River for the past weeks and bugs are out there - so the fish are feeding. The Farmer's Almanac is calling for a warmer and wetter at times summer. We predict smiles and a lot of happy fishermen.
